Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 In which are high thrones. 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
