The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
