۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: Verily ye and your fathers were in plain error. 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 (When they saw the idols in this state) they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Surely he is one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We brought him in unto Our mercy. Lo! he was of the righteous. 75
