And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 "Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
