He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe of God 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
