Can someone to whom We have made a gracious promise and who will see it fulfilled, be compared to someone We have allowed to enjoy a worldly life, awhile, and who will be brought up [before God] for his accounting on the Day of Resurrection? 61 On that Day He will call to them, and say, "Where are those whom you claimed to be My partners?" 62 Those about whom the Word will have come true (to be punished) will say: "Our Lord! These are they whom we led astray. We led them astray, as we were astray ourselves. We declare our innocence (from them) before You. It was not us they worshipped." 63 And it will be said: Call your associate-gods. So they will call upon them, but they will not answer them, and they shall see the punishment; would that they had followed the right way! 64 And on the Day when He will call to them and proclaim, “What answer did you give to the Noble Messengers?” 65 On that day (all) tidings will be dimmed for them, nor will they ask one of another, 66 Howbeit, whosoever shall repent and believe, and work righteous works - belike he shall be of the thrivers. 67 And your Lord creates and chooses whom He pleases; to choose is not theirs; glory be to Allah, and exalted be He above what they associate (with Him). 68 Your Lord knows all that their hearts conceal and all that they reveal. 69 And He is Allah; there is no deity except Him. To Him is [due all] praise in the first [life] and the Hereafter. And His is the [final] decision, and to Him you will be returned. 70 Say thou: bethink ye, if Allah made night continuous for you till the Day of Resurrection, what god is there beside Allah, who would bring you light? Hearken ye not? 71 Say thou: bethink ye, if Allah made day continuous for you till the Day of Resurrection, what god is there beside Allah, who would bring you night wherein ye have repose? Behold ye not? 72 It is out of His Mercy that He has made for you night and day that you may repose (during the night) and seek His Bounty (during the day) that you might be grateful. 73 Upon the day when He shall call. to them, and He shall say, 'Where now are My associates whom you were asserting?' 74 And [they will remain silent: for by then] We will have called forth witnesses from within every community, and will have said [unto the sinners]: "Produce an evidence for what you have been claiming!" And so they will come to understand that all truth is God's [alone]; and all their false imagery will have forsaken them. 75
