The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and serried acacias, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
