The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
