The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great news - 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
