(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
