Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 Those are the signs of the Wise Book 2 A guidance and a mercy for the doers of goodness, 3 people who are steadfast in prayer, pay the religious tax, and have firm belief in the life to come. 4 Those are on [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful. 5 And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire). 6 When Our verses are recited to such a person, he arrogantly turns away, as though he had not heard them, or as though there was a deafness in his ears. So announce to him the tidings of a grievous chastisement. 7 (As for) those who believe and do good, they shall surely have gardens of bliss, 8 Wherein they abide eternally; [it is] the promise of Allah [which is] truth. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. 9 He hath created the heavens without supports that ye can see, and hath cast into the earth firm hills, so that it quake not with you; and He hath dispersed therein all kinds of beasts. And We send down water from the sky and We cause (plants) of every goodly kind to grow therein. 10 [All] this is God's creation: show Me, then, what others than He may have created! Nay, but the evildoers are obviously lost in error! 11
