The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
96 verses, revealed in Mecca after T H (Taa Haa) before The Poets (Alshu'araa')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
