Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
