Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 do not obey the bidding of those who are given to excesses, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
