The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
