The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous ones will drink from a cup containing camphor 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
