He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
