Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
