The Pharaoh said to the people around him, "He is certainly a skillful magician. 34 who wants to drive you out of your land by his magic. Tell us, what do you advise us?" 35 They said: put off him and his brother, and send unto the cities callers. 36 who shall assemble before thee all sorcerers of great knowledge" 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 And it was said to the people: Will you gather together? 39 so that we may follow the magicians if they become victorious? 40 And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?" 41 Answered he: "Yea - and verily, in that case you shall be among those who are near unto me. 42 Musa said unto them: cast whatsoever ye have to cast. 43 So they cast down their cords and their rods and said: By Firon's power, we shall most surely be victorious. 44 Then Moses cast down his staff and it swallowed up their lying invention, 45 Then the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 46 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 48 Said (Pharaoh): "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? surely he is your leader, who has taught you sorcery! but soon shall ye know! Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross!" 49 They answered: "No harm [canst thou do to us]: verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn! 50 We are eager that our Lord should forgive us our offences, for that we are the first of the believers.' 51
