Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the passing night, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 Enter then My garden." 30
