The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
