▼ 74 The Hidden Secret
Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
By the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "What has caused you to enter Hell?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
