So they set out, but, when they got into a boat, the man made a hole in it. Moses exclaimed, "Have you made a hole in the boat to drown the people in it? You have indeed done a dreadful thing!" 71 He said: Did I not say that you will not be able to have patience with me? 72 [Moses] said, "Do not blame me for what I forgot and do not cover me in my matter with difficulty." 73 Then they proceeded: until, when they met a young man, he slew him. Moses said: "Hast thou slain an innocent person who had slain none? Truly a foul (unheard of) thing hast thou done!" 74 ۞ He said: said I not unto thee that thou wouldst by no means be able to have with me patience? 75 Moses said: "Keep me no more in your company if I question you concerning anything after this. You will then be fully justified." 76 So they departed; until, when they reached the people of a city, they asked the people for food, but they refused to receive them hospitably. There they found a wall about to tumble down, and so he set it up. He said, 'If thou hadst wished, thou couldst have taken a wage for that.' 77 [The sage] replied: "This is the parting of ways between me and thee. [And now] I shall let thee know the real meaning of all [those events] that thou wert unable to bear with patience; 78 "As for the ship, it belonged to Masakin (poor people) working in the sea. So I wished to make a defective damage in it, as there was a king after them who seized every ship by force. 79 “And in respect of the boy – his parents were Muslims and we feared that he may incite them to rebellion and disbelief.” 80 So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy. 81 And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the town and underneath it was a treasure belonging to them and their father had been righteous. So thy Lord intended that the twain should attain their maturity and bring forth for themselves their treasure as a mercy from thy Lord. And I did it not of mine own command; that is the interpretation of that wherewith thou wast not able to have patience. 82
