And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They said, 'Nay, but we have brought thee that concerning which they were doubting. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay. 74 Indeed in this are signs for people who perceive. 75 And verily they are on a pathway lasting. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
