The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
