Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
