We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 But when your Lord said to the angels: "I am verily going to create a human being from fermented clay dried tingling hard; 28 When it is properly shaped and I have blown My Spirit into it, you should then bow down in prostration". 29 So the angels made obeisance, all of them together, 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Allah said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved, 37 until the day of a known time." 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Over My true servants you will be able to exercise no power, your power will be confined to the erring ones, those who choose to follow you. 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 It has seven gates, and through each gate a portion of them belong. 44
