a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers - 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 That, "We have indeed been penalised!" 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
