The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 and the night and what it envelops 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
