The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
