And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnain. Say: "I shall recite to you something of his story." 83 We established him in the land, and We gave him a way to everything; 84 So he followed a way. 85 Until when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he perceived it setting in a miry spring, and he found beside it a nation. We said: Zul Qarnian! either chastise them or take in respect of them the way of kindness. 86 He answered: "As for him who does wrong [unto others] - him shall we, in time, cause to suffer; and thereupon he shall be referred to his Sustainer, and He will cause him to suffer with unnameable suffering. 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Then he set out on another expedition 89 To the extent that when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for which We had not kept any shelter from it. 90 So (it was). And We knew all concerning him. 91 Then he followed still another path, 92 until, when he reached between the two barriers, he found this side of them a people scarcely able to understand speech. 93 They said: O Zulqarnain! surely Gog and Magog make mischief in the land. Shall we then pay you a tribute on condition that you should raise a barrier between us and them 94 He said: That in which my Lord has established me is better, therefore you only help me with workers, I will make a fortified barrier between you and them; 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 Thus (Gog and Magog) could neither climb over it nor dig a hole through (the rampart). 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass He will make it level with the ground, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ On that Day, We shall let them surge against each other like waves and then the Trumpet will be blown and We shall gather them all together. 99 and upon that day We shall present Gehenna to the unbelievers 100 whose eyes had become blind against My admonition and who were utterly disinclined to hear it. 101
