Now, behold, this [divine writ] has indeed been bestowed from on high by the Sustainer of all the worlds: 192 the Faithful Spirit has brought it down 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 Had We revealed it to a non-Arab 198 And he had read it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment. 201 that will come upon them [on resurrection,] all of a sudden, without their being aware [of its approach]; 202 Then they will say: "Can we be respited?" 203 So for Our punishment are they impatient? 204 Have you then considered if We let them enjoy themselves for years, 205 and thereupon that [chastisement] which they were promised befalls them 206 They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided. 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 By way of reminder; and We never are unjust. 209 No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation): 210 They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it. 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 Warn your close relatives 214 And take those believers under your wing who follow you. 215 So if they do not obey you, then say, “Indeed I am unconcerned with what you do.” 216 Have trust in the Majestic and All-merciful God, 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 And thy movements among those who prostrate themselves, 219 He is All-hearing and All-knowing." 220 Shall I inform you, (O people!), on whom it is that the evil ones descend? 221 They descend on every guilty impostor. 222 They incline their ears, and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets -- the perverse follow them; 224 Have you not seen that they wander distract in every valley, 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who do wrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned! 227
