The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for those on the Right, 38
