The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the heaven, and the night-visitor, 1 And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 He is created from a gushing fluid 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 on the Day when all secrets will be laid bare, 9 Then will (man) have no power, nor any helper. 10 By the Firmament which returns (in its round), 11 And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants), 12 Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing. 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 Surely they will make a scheme, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile. 17
