The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And [then] We inspired Moses, "Throw down thy staff!" - and lo! it swallowed up all their deceptions: 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
