And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 Recall what time he ran away unto a laden ship. 140 So he shared (with them), but was of those who are cast off. 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 and We caused to grow over him a tree of gourds. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were present? 150 Then is it of their lying that they say: 151 'God has begotten?' They are truly liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you decide? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Produce, then, that divine writ of yours, if you are speaking the truth! 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 can lure away from God any 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants) 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 And there were those who said, 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 They have rejected the Quran. They will soon know the consequences (of their disbelief). 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 That they would certainly be assisted, 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they want to suffer Our torment immediately? 176 But then, once it alights upon them, hapless will be the awakening of those who were warned [to no avail]! 177 So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while, 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
