The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great news - 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 Requital corresponding. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
