He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
