The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
