۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 You shall certainly taste the painful punishment: 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 Are we not then to die 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
