Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
