The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
