Al-Hijjr 3 of 6
And indeed, We created man from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 But Satan did not; he refused to join those who prostrated themselves. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 He replied: 'I will not prostrate to a mortal You have created of clay, from molded mud' 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 Satan said, "O my Lord! Grant me respite till the Day of Resurrection." 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 Iblis said, "Lord, because you have caused me to go astray, I shall make earthly things attractive to (people) and mislead all of them 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 "Certainly, you shall have no authority over My slaves, except those who follow you of the Ghawin (Mushrikun and those who go astray, criminals, polytheists, and evil-doers, etc.). 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
