The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount; 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 And the House frequented, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
