A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
