Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 Of a related orphan, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
