The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. For her is a [time of] drink, and for you is a [time of] drink, [each] on a known day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
