Truly it is the revelation of the Lord of all Being, 192 The Faithful Spirit has descended with it, 193 upon your heart (Prophet Muhammad), in order to be one of the warners, 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 And indeed it is mentioned in the earlier Books. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 (But such is their adamance) that had We revealed it to one of the non-Arabs and even if he had recited (this clear Arabic discourse) to them 198 And he had recited it to them, and they had not believed. 199 In this wise have We made way for it into the hearts of the culprits. 200 They will not believe it until they behold the painful punishment. 201 So it will come upon them suddenly, whilst they will be unaware. 202 and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited' 203 What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 And then the promise that is given to them, does come upon them- 206 (How) that wherewith they were contented naught availeth them? 207 And never did We destroy a township, but it had its warners 208 as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust. 209 The satans have not revealed the Quran; 210 they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task. 211 Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed. 212 So call thou not upon another god with God, lest thou shouldst be one of those that are chastised. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 and spread the wings of thy tenderness over all of the believers who may follow thee; 215 Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!" 216 and place thy trust in the Almighty, the Dispenser of Grace, 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Should I tell you on whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying, wicked person, 222 Who listens to you; but most of them are liars. 223 As for poets, the erring follow them. 224 Do you not see that in every valley they roam 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
