The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
