The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 purify your garments; 4 and defilement flee! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
